Perth - South-East Corridor (Armadale-Gosnells)

If you’re a fellowed or newly fellowed GP considering a metro DPA location in Perth, the South-East Corridor centred on Armadale and Gosnells offers a practical mix of strong patient demand, relative housing affordability and improving infrastructure. This established yet still-growing part of Perth sits along the Armadale Line and takes in family-oriented suburbs including Armadale, Gosnells, Maddington and Jandakot. The City of Armadale alone is estimated at around 117,000 residents in 2026 and is projected to grow toward 155,000 by the mid-2040s. Combined with continued development across Gosnells, that scale of population growth is a key reason many catchments here hold DPA status — GP supply has not fully kept pace with demand.

 

Housing remains one of the corridor’s clearest advantages. Median house prices in Armadale and Gosnells sit well below the broader Perth metropolitan median, making the area more attainable for GPs and their families than many inner or coastal suburbs. Recent years have still seen solid price growth, reflecting ongoing buyer interest from first-home buyers, young families and those priced out of dearer parts of the city.

 

Transport is a genuine strength. The Armadale Line provides direct rail services into the Perth CBD, with Armadale Station acting as a major southern terminus. Frequent buses feed the stations, and major roads including Albany Highway, Roe Highway and the Tonkin Highway support efficient car travel across the south-east and to Perth Airport. Journey times to the city are typically 30–45 minutes by train, depending on the exact station.

 

Education options are extensive. The City of Armadale alone has dozens of primary and secondary schools, with additional public, Catholic and independent choices across Gosnells and surrounding suburbs. Everyday amenities include major shopping centres (such as Armadale Shopping City), parks, sporting facilities and local services. Health infrastructure includes Armadale Health Service and nearby hospitals, providing useful local referral pathways.

 

Lifestyle is more varied than many expect of an outer-metro corridor. Residents enjoy established suburban living with good access to the Darling Scarp foothills, parks and regional open space, while still being close to the city’s employment and specialist services. The community is diverse and family-heavy — a strong fit for internationally trained GPs seeking a patient population that reflects a mix of backgrounds.
