Understanding the stages of AHPRA processing is essential for overseas-trained General Practitioners (GPs) planning to work in Australia. 2-4 weeks after completeness confirmed

4. Board Review

Medical Board formal sign-off

+1-2 weeks

5. Final Outcome / Registration

Approval notice or request for final documents

Total ~4-6 weeks (can extend up to 8 weeks)

AHPRA RACGP PEP Specialist Pathway – Outcome Timeframe

Application logged with RACGP outcome, ID, CoGS, etc.

2. Initial Review

AHPRA checks for completeness

2-5 weeks (peak/complex cases up to 35 days)

3. Full Assessment

Review of qualifications, recency, supervision plan, etc.

Up to 9 weeks

4. Medical Board Review

Sent for formal sign-off

+1-2 weeks (depending on meeting dates)

5. Outcome / Registration Issued

Registration issued if all standards are met

4-6 weeks after full assessment
